“On top of being an extremely talented multi-instrumentalist and engineer, Jake has an incredible ability to cultivate spaces that encourage limitless creativity. Every time I entered a session with Jake, I immediately felt a safety and warmth that allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and go for ideas that I normally wouldn’t have. I think fluidity is a vital part of the creative process and Jake embodies that as a producer and engineer. He is a joy to work with and I recommend him to any artists wanting to take their music to the next level.”

Jake’s unconventional production approach and pop sensibility helped me to realize each song’s full potential on Youthful Exuberance. We threw everything at the wall just to see what would stick. It was the most fun and daring experience I’ve had in a studio, and I think that sentiment really shines through the whole EP.

“Working with Jake was a beautiful balance of leading while following. I felt his dedication to actualizing my hopes and dreams for the record while being appropriately challenged and sharpened along the way. I’m so proud of what we were able to make together”

Jake is an extremely skilled and reliable engineer and producer. He managed to strike a balance between having an adventurous and open mind in supporting your vision, while also not being afraid to respectfully share new ideas that will help your music become the best that it can be. He is full of ideas, and he knows how to make them happen. Creating my record with him was an absolute joy and I can honestly say that Jake earned my trust through that process. I hope to work with him again.

I was fortunate enough to record drums and percussion with Jake for two separate LP’s in 2020, and I loved every minute. Jake is that rare producer who possesses real balance. He was the first and remains one of the only producers I’ve worked with who can get up close and personal with the trees without losing sight of the forest. He has gained enough familiarity with his tools that he’s able to experiment quickly and freely with a wide variety of sounds and textures, but he has the clarity of mind to stop before a promising diversion becomes a rabbit hole. He’s got the ears and the multi-instrumentalist chops to engage in a detailed way with the tracking processes of every instrument in the band, but (thank GOD!) he’s not a musical technocrat. I’ve never been more excited or invested in a drum tracking session than I was with Jake at Feel Flow, and the range of sounds that we produced during those two sessions is a testament to the positivity that he brings to his projects. If he’s identified the desired sound, no solution is too unorthodox and no tradition is too sacred to
keep him from it. And if the sound still eludes him he searches for it patiently and diligently with open ears.He is, plainly and simply, a servant of the song. As we all should hope to be. Also I think it bears mentioning that Jake is just a really great and swell guy. I personally was a bit nervous to begin tracking with him because I’d been nursing a creative crush on his band SMiiLE for a couple years. I shouldn’t’ve been. He is a sweet, caring, humble individual whose passion for music is rivaled only by his passion for people and for the living of a healthy and vibrant life. The space he curates in his studio is homey and familiar and his approach to his colleagues’ and clients’ projects is centered around their goals. It’s hard for me to think of a project that wouldn’t benefit from his involvement. I hope to make a record with him myself someday soon. For the love of dog, retain this man’s services.
